Too much power... like what specifically? From my perspective people need to actively participate or DC will fill what ever void is out there. This also includes state governments.
That's an interesting peice on how the electorate reacts to inconsistency. I've never been a fan of the liberal NPR. The points are well made.
You have to understand that from my perspective as a Republican, I believe that our country has ceded over too much power to the Federal government over the last couple of decades. When we say we want a conservative, it's because we want DC to stay the hell out of our business as they are in too much of it already. Anyone we elect will change once they get in office. Just looking for someone who won't bow to Saudi Arabia.

More to the point, as an independent I need to consider all the facts in order to make the best possible decision. Flexibility in decision making is paramount to a good strategy. If I don't use all the facts I have, and I am too rigid in decision making, I risk loosing the end goal.
At some point, the GOP base needs to realize that the candidates are not simply flip-floppers. They are interviewing for a position on the national level. They want to represent the American people. Republicans, Democrats, Independents, etc.
A positive way to look at the changes in their positions is that they are refining their position. Each now has more feedback on their positions. I would be more worried about the candidates who NEVER changed their position.
